The Maharashtra authorities is not going to arrest former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh until June 22 in a case registered in opposition to him below the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Bombay High Court was informed on Monday.
Senior counsel Darius Khambata, who appeared for the Maharashtra authorities, informed the High Court that his earlier assertion on defending the senior IPS officer from any “coercive action” within the case shall be prolonged until June 22.
Following Mr Khambata’s assertion, a bench of Justices PB Varale and SP Tavade adjourned the listening to until June 22 on the pleas filed by Mr Singh in search of quashing of an FIR registered in opposition to him by the Thane Police below the Atrocities Act and difficult preliminary inquiries initiated in opposition to him by the state authorities.
The FIR was registered in opposition to Mr Singh below the Prevention of Atrocities Act in April this 12 months on a criticism lodged by Akola police inspector BR Ghadge.
Mr Ghadge, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste group, had alleged that Singh had conspired with others to implicate him in some circumstances of extortion after he refused to comply with Mr Singh’s unlawful orders to learn some accused individuals in a felony case.
In his different plea within the High Court, Mr Singh had challenged two inquiries initiated in opposition to him by the state authorities on fees of misconduct and corruption.
The first inquiry order was handed on April 1 this 12 months by then state residence minister Anil Deshmukh for alleged violation of some All India Services (Conduct) Rules. The second order was handed on April 20 by Mr Deshmukh’s successor Dilip Walse Patil over allegations of corruption levelled in opposition to Mr Singh.
