The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) in Gujarat has seized 24,363 being pregnant termination kits value over Rs 1.5 crore together with narcotic and psychotropic medicine that have been being bought illegally, and eight individuals have been arrested on this connection, officers stated on Sunday.

The accused have been apprehended by the FDCA from a number of places within the state, together with Ahmedabad and Surat, as a part of an operation carried out on Friday and Saturday, they stated.

While seven accused have been charged beneath the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, one other one has been arrested by the Gujarat police beneath the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after medicine, together with three lakh vials of oxytocin, have been present in his possession, FDCA Commissioner Hemant Koshia stated.

He stated that such abortion kits may very well be bought solely on the prescription of gynaecologists as per the provisions of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act.

Ahmedabad-based Pintu Shah, one of many accused, was procuring being pregnant termination kits illegally from accused Vinod Maheshwari and Lokesh Maheshwari, house owners of a distributing unit in Banaskantha”s Deesa, and promoting them on-line with out prescription. Shah had bought round 800 such kits by a web based platform within the final one-and-half years, the FDCA stated in a launch.

Deesa-based Maheshwaris had acquired the kits on the premise of cast medical prescriptions from Javeri Sangala of Surat, who had procured them from accused Rajesh Yadav, a Gujarat area gross sales supervisor of a Mumbai-based advertising firm.

Among the opposite accused are Nilay Vora, a advertising consultant of Mumbai-based agency, Vipul Patel and Monish Panchal, with whom 700 kits have been discovered, the discharge stated.

One of the accused, Tushar Thakkar, was discovered with narcotic and psychotropic medicine and has been handed over to the police.

An official stated that three lakh vials of oxytocin injections, a number of different injections with out labels, in addition to different medicine and narcotics have been seized from Thakkar, an official stated.

“The oxytocin injections have been sent to the FDCA laboratory in Vadodara for exmaination. Other items seized from Thakkar include Alpracan 0.5 tablets, (containing Alprazolam), Editax N-2 tablets (containing Buprenorphine and Naloxone) and SPAS-Trancan Tablets (containing Tramadol), all of which he was selling without licence,” the discharge stated.

The medicine seized from Thakkar have been being introduced from neighbouring Rajasthan, and this angle is being probed, the FDCA stated, including that he had been handed over to the narcotics cell of the police which had taken him into custody.
