Hours after a case was filed in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad towards Twitter and eight others, together with journalists and Congress leaders,  over posts linked to an aged Muslim man’s assault that allegedly “provoked communal sentiments”, a brand new twist has emerged within the controversy. The household of Abdul Samad, the aged man who was attacked, has denied police’s claims that he sells amulets.

Abdul Samad had alleged he was pressured to chant “Jai Sri Ram” and “Vande Matram” and his beard was reduce off by the accused when he was taken to a forested space and locked up in a room on June 5. The UP Police, nonetheless, denied any “communal angle” within the case, including that he was crushed up over the amulets he offered to some males.

He was attacked by six males – Hindus and Muslims – and he knew them, police stated. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in series of tweets today said “what occurred in UP was illustrative of Twitter’s arbitrariness in combating pretend information”. 

“While Twitter has been over keen about its truth checking mechanism, it is failure to behave in a number of circumstances like UP is perplexing and signifies its inconsistency in combating misinformation,” he added.
