In a primary, the high-value Lakadong turmeric and ginger powder have been shipped to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh stated on Wednesday.

The Lakadong number of turmeric originates from the Lakadong space of the West Jaintia Hills district. It is taken into account the most effective styles of turmeric on this planet with a curcumin content material of about 6.8 to 7.5 per cent.

“About 150 kg of Lakadong turmeric and another 150 kg of ginger powder were shipped to the Netherlands. Another 210 kg of Lakadong turmeric and 5 kg of ginger powder are bound for the UK,” Mr Banteidor advised PTI.

He stated the export is a part of a trial and the method was assisted by the state authorities, following a requirement amongst shoppers in these two nations.

The export of the produce, sourced from ladies’s selfhelp teams in these two districts, would have began final 12 months but it surely couldn’t be performed due to the pandemic, the minister stated.

Meghalaya produced 16,383 mt of turmeric in 2016-17, he stated.

Over 50 per cent of the turmeric was grown within the West Jaintia Hills district. Villages corresponding to Sumer, Lakadong, Shangpung, Iooksi, Nongtyngkoh and Khoushnong are recognized for turmeric cultivation, a senior agriculture officer stated.
